Education

Displacement disrupts more than daily routines, it interrupts a child's education at a stage when consistency matters most. Many children in Karenni have missed months or years of schooling as their families have been forced to relocate repeatedly in search of safety.

Through the Education & Learning program, KHAI establishes temporary learning centers in camps and host communities, giving children a safe, structured space to continue their studies. Centers are equipped with basic learning materials and staffed by teachers who receive ongoing training and support, including guidance on working with children who have experienced trauma.

The program also works to keep older students connected to a broader curriculum, so that a return to formal schooling, whenever it becomes possible, does not mean starting over. By keeping learning continuous, KHAI helps protect not just a child's education, but their sense of normalcy and hope for the future.
